United Methodist Men (UMM)

United Methodist Men is a fellowship committed to the growth and expansion of the church's Christian mission. We focus on helping men live out their vows and commitments through a covenant relationship with other men in the church. Our central question: What does it mean to be a man serving the Lord?

Purpose

Our Purpose is to provide a supportive fellowship for men seeking to know Jesus Christ, grow spiritually, seek His will, and help others find a welcoming place for Christ in their hearts and lives. the UMM’s programs, activities, and special events are closely related to the overall mission of the church.

Open Membership

While many of our members are part of Williamsburg UMC, church membership is not a requirement for joining our fellowship. Any man who understands and accepts the Christian principles and purposes of the United Methodist Men is welcome. Why This Matters: We believe that spiritual growth and community service are not limited to church members. Our doors are open to all men who wish to make a positive impact in their lives and the community.

Join the UMM every third Saturday of the month (except during Summer months) as they host a time for all members of the church to come together! These breakfasts are a cornerstone of our United Methodist Men community. These gatherings are more than just meals; they are an opportunity for spiritual growth, intellectual stimulation, and meaningful fellowship.

What to Expect:

  • Fellowship: Spend quality time connecting with like-minded men and women, sharing experiences, and building lasting friendships.
  • Hearty Breakfast: Enjoy a delicious, hearty breakfast that will fuel your body and soul.
  • Devotional Time: Start your day right with a moment of prayer and reflection, led by one of our community members.

john harbour scholarship fund

Established in 1988 by his devoted wife to honor the legacy of Mr. John Harbour, a cherished member of our community, the John Harbour Scholarship Fund embodies our commitment to service and education. Mr. Harbour's unwavering dedication to Jesus Christ, the Church, and the community continues to inspire us, driving our mission to support individuals pursuing graduate studies in ordained ministry or related Christian service.

Mr. Harbour's impact extended far beyond the boundaries of Williamsburg. As a founding member of the United Methodist Men and a steadfast contributor to various church initiatives, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched. His wife, Helen, established this scholarship as a testament to his lifelong commitment to serving others.

Each year, the Harbour Scholarship is awarded to deserving individuals who exemplify Mr. Harbour's spirit of service and dedication. While preference is given to those pursuing graduate work in ordained ministry or Christian service, we also consider academic excellence, leadership qualities, and community involvement in our selection process.

Investing in Education, Transforming Lives

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raise funds through a series of engaging events, including monthly Churchwide Breakfasts, concerts, and fellowship gatherings. These events not only provide financial support but also foster a sense of unity and purpose among our members.

Celebrating Success

The impact of the Harbour Scholarship extends far beyond the financial support it provides. It's about nurturing future leaders who will continue Mr. Harbour's legacy of service and compassion. Past recipients, such as Rev. Meghan Roth Clayton, Keith Potter, Jeffrey Westbrook, and Zach Griggs, stand as shining examples of the transformative power of education and community support.

Join Us In Making a Difference

Since its inception, the Harbour Scholarship Fund has awarded over $100,000 to highly qualified applicants, enabling them to pursue their academic and spiritual aspirations. As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our reach and supporting even more deserving individuals on their journey of faith and learning.

Application Process

Every Spring, the UMM Executive Committee eagerly awaits applications from students seeking financial assistance. With careful consideration, the committee evaluates each submission and ultimately makes the decisions that help pave the way for students' futures. Promptly in the Summer, applicants receive notification of the committee's verdict, bringing clarity to their financial journey. Upon approval, funds are swiftly transmitted to the Student Aid offices of respective schools by the UMM Treasurer. This seamless process ensures that students promptly receive the support they need to fulfill their financial obligations and pursue their academic aspirations. Our goal is to award two scholarships per year.
