Creating Space for Connection: A Heartfelt Thank You

A Heartfelt Thank You

At Williamsburg UMC, we believe church should be more than a place where people come to hear a message and then rush out the door. We want to be a church where people come for the Word and stay for each other—a place of true community, where all ages feel seen, valued, and intentionally welcomed.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our Welcome and Hospitality Committee, along with the dedication and generosity of several members and donors, our Atrium space has been transformed into just that—a space where connection thrives.

What was once an empty area is now a vibrant and welcoming gathering space:

  • A place where our older disciples can sit, enjoy a warm cup of coffee, and connect before and after services.
  • A space where our youngest members feel valued, with fun, kid-sized tables and chairs, a fully stocked bookcase, children’s bulletins, games, and activities designed just for them.
  • A gathering spot that extends beyond Sundays, where members and visitors alike find comfort and community throughout the week.

This transformation would not have been possible without the time, talent, and generosity of so many. We extend our deepest gratitude to Val Dobson, Van Dobson (who has graciously agreed to create new coffee station furniture—stay tuned!), Zach Griggs, Michelle Roy, and Laura Viancour whose dedication has brought this vision to life. We are also profoundly grateful to Mr. Lew LeCompte, Mrs. Margaret Merhoff, and an anonymous donor, whose generosity has made these enhancements a reality.

Watching this space take shape over the past year has been inspiring, but even more special is seeing it so lovingly used by our church family and visitors alike. And the work isn’t finished yet! Next up is a more functional coffee area to better serve our congregation and create an even more welcoming space for visitors and members.

Thank you to all who have poured their hearts into making this possible. It is because of you that Williamsburg UMC continues to be a place where people don’t just attend church—they feel they belong.
