Meeting Your Church Council: Chair, Barbara Monteith

June 24, 2024

PROVIDING INITIATIVE, COORDINATION AND COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP

We’re incredibly grateful for the vibrant leadership and heartfelt dedication that Barbara has brought as Chair of our Church Council. Since stepping into this role in 2023, Barbara has been a beacon of inspiration, guiding us with her background in education and her passion for developing spiritual leaders.

As Council Chair, Barbara’s role is essential to our congregational life.  She works closely with our Pastors, Lay Leaders, and other key leaders to bring our mission to life. Together, they set and articulate our vision, organize annual planning meetings, and keep tasks on track throughout the year. Barbara’s coordination and leadership have ensured that our efforts align with WUMC’s mission and values.

But what truly sets Barbara apart is her ability to foster collaboration and communication among all. Her leadership style isn’t just about steering the ship; it’s about making sure every voice is heard and every idea is valued. She has helped create an environment where everyone feels encouraged to contribute, leading to a more dynamic and united ministry team.

Recently, Barbara shared the vision and strategic plan approved by Council that will carry us through 2026, which has been well-received by our congregation. Her efforts are already making a tangible difference, and we can’t wait to see these plans and priorities come to fruition under her guidance. Barbara’s connection to WUMC goes beyond her role as Chair; she also serves on our Respite Care Board and actively participates in worship as usher, and various other ministries within our church. Barbara lives here in Williamsburg with her husband, Marty, and is a Senior Development Manager at Alzheimer's Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter. They have two adult children.

We invite you to learn more about Barbara by watching the video above. You’ll hear about what brought her to our fellowship, the accomplishments she’s most proud of and what she's most looking forward to.
