Have you ever wondered what it means to be a Lay Member to the Annual Conference? It's an important role where lay members, alongside pastors, serve as the bridge between our congregation and the larger church community. They interpret the work done during the annual conference sessions, bringing back insights and decisions to share with us. They represent our congregation, vote on various issues, and help shape the future of our church. It's a big responsibility, and we're fortunate to have Mike and Angela Johnson stepping up to the task.
Mike and Angela have been incredible representatives for Williamsburg United Methodist Church at the Annual Conference. Their passion and commitment have had a meaningful impact on both our congregation and the broader church community. As Lay Members (delegates), they've brought back valuable insights and fresh perspectives, enriching our church's discussions and decisions.
Barbara Monteith, our Church Council Chair, has some wonderful things to say about working with Mike:
It's been a delight getting to know Mike better as we work together on the Church Council. Mike has challenged me to examine issues through a different lens, and the experience that Mike and his wife Angela had at this year's Annual Conference has made me think about attending Annual Conference someday. Recently, Mike admitted to me that he's never felt so plugged into the Church as he has this past year. Serving on the Church Council can be a joy, and if you feel called to do so, please talk to me or one of the pastors.
We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Mike and Angela for a video interview. They shared their experiences at the Annual Conference, talked about their family's rich history of Lay Leaders, and reflected on what brought them to WUMC. They also spoke about their hopes for our faith community and their vision for the future. Their stories are truly inspiring and provide a deeper understanding of their dedication and the meaningful contributions they make to our church.
We encourage you to watch the interview to get to know Mike and Angela better. You'll hear firsthand about their journey, their insights from the Annual Conference, and their heartfelt hopes for our congregation.
We are so grateful for Mike and Angela's service and look forward to seeing the continued positive influence they will have on our church community. If you're feeling inspired and curious about becoming more involved, consider talking to Barbara or one of our pastors. There are many ways to contribute and make a difference!
