Kid's Morning Out is a weekday ministry of Williamsburg United Methodist Church. We serve families with children from 1 to 5 years old by providing a high quality, engaging and safe learning environment for our Kiddos while also providing a support system for caregivers. We focus on learning through play, and fostering the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual growth of each child. Each class provides age-appropriate structure and learning activities that are hands-on and interactive. Kid's Morning Out uses positive classroom management and conscious discipline that begins with mutual respect, and a genuine connection with each child. The small class sizes and low student to teacher ratios allow for individual attention to each child’s specific needs, creating an ideal learning environment for children at every stage of development.

CLASSES

SPROUTS

This class for young toddlers (1-year old as of September 30) focuses on introducing social interactions, developing gross motor skills, and learning through play. Children will experience unstructured center exploration, group activities, engaging songs and stories, and will build meaningful and enriching relationships with their teachers and the other children. Our curriculum centers around meaningful stories from the Bible, and introduces a basic understanding of God. The three main themes of our classes are God made me, God loves me, and God has a plan for me. This classroom has a maximum of 10 students per day, with two teachers always present for a 1:4 ratio.

SEEDLINGS

This class for 2-year olds (as of September 30) focuses on developing social and emotional skills, encouraging gross and beginning fine motor skills, and learning through play. Children will experience unstructured center exploration, group activities, engaging songs and stories, and build meaningful and enriching relationships with their teachers and their peers. Our curriculum centers around stories from the Bible and begins a basic introduction to understanding God. The three main themes of our classes are God made me, God loves me, and God has a plan for me. The classroom has a maximum of 8 students per day, with two teachers always present, for a 1:4 ratio.

SAPLINGS

This class for 3-year olds (as of September 30) focuses on developing social and emotional skills, encouraging gross and beginning fine motor skills, and learning through play. Children will experience unstructured center exploration, group activities, engaging songs and stories, and building meaningful relationships with their teachers and with other children. Our curriculum centers around stories from the Bible and begins a basic introduction to God. The three main themes of our classes are God made me, God loves me, and God has a plan for me. This classroom has a maximum of 10 students per day, with two teachers always present for a 1:5 ratio.

SYCAMORES

This class for four-year olds (as of September 30) focuses on developing social and emotional skills, refinement of gross motor and fine motor skills, learning through play, and developmentally appropriate preparation for kindergarten. Children will be able to experience an intentional balance of unstructured play, guided play, and direct instruction. Through the use of group activities, engaging songs and stories, and meaningful relationships with teachers and other children, we are committed to providing a well-rounded experience for all students. Our curriculum centers around stories from the Bible and begins a basic introduction to God. The three main themes of our classes are God made me, God loves me, and God has a plan for me. This classroom has a maximum of 12 students per day, with two teachers always present for a 1:6 ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are classes?

Classes are held Monday-Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm. We are open September - May and follow the Williamsburg Public School Calendar during the school year.

Does my child come everyday?

No! Parents choose the schedule that works best for them. You can register for as few as two days, or as many as all 5.

What if my child has never been in a group care setting before?

No problem! Our teachers work very hard to make each child feel comfortable in our space. We help both children and parents through that transition to make this a fun and enjoyable time for both!

What will my child learn?

Our lessons each week are based around the Bible. Each week we will have a theme that reflects a specific Bible story. Our goal is to teach three main ideas: God made me, God loves me, and God has a plan for me! We believe that children learn best through play. We offer opportunities to explore in a safe environment, learn social skills, and begin to control their executive functions. This gives them the building blocks for all learning as they grow. In older classes, we utilize the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program with a focus on hands-on and interactive learning, while utilizing our small class sizes to capitalize on individual interests.

What is the teacher to child ratio?

At Kid's Morning Out, we maintain a 1:4 student:teacher ratio in our Sprouts and Seedlings classrooms. We have two teachers per classroom and no more than 8 students at a time. In our Sapling class, we maintain a 1:5 ratio. We have 2 teachers and no more than 10 students at a time. In our Sycamores classroom, we have no more than 12 students for a 1:6 student:teacher ratio. There are always 2 teachers present, no matter how many or few children are in attendance.

My child is not potty-trained. Is that a problem?

Absolutely not? We do not require that your child be potty-trained in our Sprouts, Seedlings, or Saplings classrooms. Did you know that only 22% of children are potty-trained by 2.5 years old, and only 88% by 3.5 years old? Developmentally, this happens at different times for every child. Ready to start the process? We can help! Let us know what you are doing at home and we will do our best to do the same at school.

Do you offer financial assistance?

We do offer partial scholarships. Our hope is to provide assistance to any family in our program who is in need.
