Rooms to Grow: How WUMC Supports Future Leaders in Troop 103
Williamsburg United Methodist Church (WUMC) has been an invaluable resource and partner in the ongoing success of Troop 103, the oldest continuously operating Boy Scout Troop in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established in 1913 as Williamsburg’s very first Boy Scout Troop, Troop 103 has shared a deep, longstanding connection with WUMC from its earliest days.
While WUMC has always supported Troop 103’s operations, it became even more pivotal in the 1980s by taking on the role of the primary Chartered Organization and host for the Troop. The countless achievements and impressive number of Eagle Scouts who have emerged from Troop 103 directly reflect the care, financial backing, facilities, and unwavering support generously provided by WUMC through the decades.
Today, the Troop’s continued success hinges on the essential resources and space WUMC provides. From weekly meetings held in multiple rooms to large annual events, the church's facilities have become integral to the life of Troop 103. Moreover, the Church offers invaluable opportunities for Scouts to learn the importance of giving back through meaningful service projects that benefit both the Church and the broader community.
Although WUMC is no longer the official Chartered Organization, the profound historical bond remains strong through Facility Use Agreements critical to Troop 103’s daily operations. We extend heartfelt gratitude to WUMC and its congregation for the enduring love, generosity, and commitment shown to our Scouting program.
