Mark your calendars! All church members, guests, and community neighbors are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, September 12 at 8:30 AM for our upcoming Churchwide Fellowship Breakfast.
Church member Dr. Michael Finlan will lead an enlightening presentation exploring the science and mystery surrounding the Shroud of Turin—believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.
Michael holds a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. in optics from the University of Rochester, and a B.S. in chemistry from Clarkson University. He was an Adjunct Professor at Villanova University and an Optical Engineer at Northrop Grumman, GE, GM, and Lucent. He has expertise in lasers, environmental science, spectroscopy, infrared imaging, fiber optics, and solar energy conversion on satellites.
Dr. Finlan will break down the various scientific studies conducted on the Shroud over the years, some of which conclude that it is indeed the cloth that swathed Jesus’ corpse, while others conclude the Shroud is a hoax. So, what is correct? Michael will address the radiocarbon dating results, explain potential errors in those tests, and examine three alternative dating methods that suggest the cloth may actually date back roughly 2,000 years.
Enjoy great food, warm fellowship, and an intriguing scientific journey! We hope to see you there.
